Pristinely beautiful and worthy of grand praise is the work of artist Shoko Ishida (Previously on Supersonic Art).

An animation which makes me smile
Anna Pan is an animation student at Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia. The blend of daily life with surrealism creates contemplative, enigmatic pieces that easily draw the eye.
A lot of the time I find myself drawing or reusing a lot of my older characters — especially the ones from a couple of years ago, where their stories are so convoluted and have been changed so many times I can’t really remember what happen[s] to them anymore. They still stay in the back of my mind, and I use a lot of them as guinea pigs or vessels for my own emotions and experiences. I think I’ve been through so much with them that I’m too fond of them to let them go…
Interview with Anna Pan
Check out the interview i did for artandcetera! Thanks so much to Alex for asking me to do the interview!
There are few young artists I’ve encountered in the last 10 years who, upon meeting has instantly inspired me. Like, seriously. Whenever I see Toronto resident/ born and raised Accra, Ghana, West African creative wunderkind, Gyimah Gariba’s work, I am reminded that in some small way, the future of art/animation will be okay for us, lol.
I discovered Gyimah’s amazing work online some 3-4 years ago, sharing his work amongst my peers. He was 19 at the time I believe. I miraculously got to meet him the following year in person on Season 1 of Black Dynamite:The Animated Series. He, along with a couple of other animation expats were there for an internship at Titmouse animation studio helping out on the show. He was 20 years old then, and, imo was just too good for his age. I thought of him an “old soul” in animation: a reincarnation of some art master in a past life, possessing him to spread his skill in this era. In this life, haha. At only 23 years old, he’s just unreal. His work speaks to me in so many ways: it’s vibrant, expressive, genuine and full of love, much like him. I’ve bragged about knowing him often, I’m doing it again. I believe he will be one of the true, new voices in the global animation community. Keep an eye on him, I sure will continue to. ^^

Phenomenal recent “embroidered paintings” by artist Cayce Zavaglia (Previously on Supersonic Art).
Anna started making art in 2012, at 17 years old. She has grown a substantial following on Tumblr, with each of her drawings typically garnering a couple of thousand notes.
“I definitely started as a way to communicate small ideas as cute little comics, to make others laugh. I think being able to convey emotions through art is still one of the most important things to me. When I started I was going through a pretty tough patch in life and it definitely helped me to stay anchored to the ground, so to speak!”
Outside of art, Anna enjoys music, fashion, and studying different sciences.
“I’ve also recently picked up cooking and it’s made such a huge difference in my life, as well as being a nice break from working all the time!”
Anna derives inspiration from several renowned artists like Hiroshi Yoshida, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Taiyo Matsumoto. She is also inspired by those around her.
“I find that a lot of my close friends and art acquaintances are the most inspiring and always push me to do better and be a better person!”
You can support Anna by keeping up with her here on Tumblr, checking out her website, following her on Twitter, and buying some of her prints.

I just LOVE the animation here. The part with just their hands looks real. And I love the way Gothel’s fingers go from motherly gentle touch to creepy and evil. Beautiful
Tangled actually did a better job capturing an emotionally abusive relationship than most other things I’ve seen. And I don’t just mean when Gothel kidnapped her and lied to her about who she was. It was everything. She kept Rapunzel with her by cutting people out of her life and destroying her self-esteem. She puts her down and doesn’t allow her to feel confident at all. Recall when Rapunzel states she thinks Flynn likes her, Gothel blows her off with, “But just look at you. You think he’s impressed?” She also constantly makes Rapunzel feel responsible for everything that goes wrong. When they get in the argument in the beginning, Gothel victimizes herself and does her best to make Rapunzel feel guilty for asking her for a simple favor. It’s so textbook. And immediately after anything, she treats Rapunzel by promising her favourite soup and reminding her, “I love you most” to reel her back into that false sense of security.
And back to the animation of how she didn’t notice the maternal and loving hand was actually a malicious claw until she realised she was in an abusive relationship. Basically, Tangled is a really important movie, and the fact Gothel is so familiar to those of us who have experienced abuse is good because children are going to watch this and look for Gothels in their own lives.
